Project one required us to record our lives and those around us, to capture data from them and to make numerical visualizations. First, I designed a mood chart, recording the events that affected my mood during the week to gain design insights.
According to my records, insomnia affects my mood for the day. Through the communication with Jackie in the tutorial, I decided to record my sleep and get the sleep data for a week.
Data records
Next, I used a mobile phone sleep App to record the time of falling asleep and sleep quality by listening to different sounds every night before going to bed for a week.
App recording
Voice recording
Hertz audio of the sounds heard each night was recorded and the resulting data visualized.
Day 1 Sound of rain
Day 2 Watch the TikTok
Day 3 Yoga
Day 4 Sound of Piano
Day 5 Sound of birds
Day 6 Cello sound
Day 7 Listen to the radio
According to the data, sleep quality is best after exercise. Jackie affirmed my approach to the sound, but she also suggested making the patterns pop out like bubbles.
Outcomes
I took Jackie’s advice and made a sound video, using the sounds I listened to before going to bed for a week as background music.
Model making
I made a sound model about the noise that causes sleep quality, and they expressed the noise of cars, the sound of people on the street and the song of birds, which are all the sounds that cause me to wake up or lose sleep.
